Freestyle Eligibility
In choosing a partner it must be in the spirit of this event – bringing the dance community together.
The ‘student’ competitor must have been dancing less than 2 years.
Their ‘teacher’ partner must be a Director &/or Mainstream Teacher (recap or bridging etc are accepted but knowing that they will be competing against champs) of Modern Jive or a current or past competitor at the Advanced/Champions level. Event host directors may enter this category of competition.Dancers Excluded
Partners cannot be a life/regular partner or a performance dance partner.
Partners cannot compete in another category together in the championships.If the teacher and student partnership has competed at any past championships, they may not compete in this event together.Teachers are reminded that this competition is about their student and as such teachers are to dance in a way that highlights their student’s ability rather than their own ability. Judges will be asked to focus on the student’s ability – not that of the teacher.
Notes:
Divided into separate comp divisions for guys and girls.
Beginner or intermediate “female” dancers must dance in the “Girls” Section.
Beginner or intermediate “male” dancers must dance in the “Boys” Section.

In the final there will be: 2 group songs and a 1 Song Rapid Fire Spotlight dance (see below for Rapid Fire Spotlight Dance description).Aerials

Full: 2 per song.
Notes: The Rapid Fire will be danced to one song. All couples will remain on the dance floor for the duration of the Rapid Fire Spotlight, forming a semi-circle around each couple as they dance. Each couple will dance for 1 major phrase of the song (64 straight counts), after which they will return to the semi-circle as another couple moves into the middle to dance. This format will continue throughout the song until all couples have danced at least once.
DWAS Eligibility
Recognized as an Advanced Dancer.
Intermediate & Advanced Modern Jive Teachers can enter at this level also.
If you won DWAS in a lower level you must move up a level if that win is more than 12 months prior to this competition.
Level may be different to Freestyle level.Dancers Excluded

Champions Freestyle Eligibility
Recognized as a Champions (Masters) Dancer.
If you have placed 1st in a national championship at Advanced level or higher more than 12 months prior to this competition.
If the individuals in the couple are considered as dancing at different levels, one member must be eligible for Champions and one can be Intermediate Plus or above if dancing up.
At the discretion of the Directors, an advanced couple can be invited to dance up. In the event they do not place they have the right to drop back down.Special dispensation – If you have never placed in Champions (Masters) & have not competed in Champions (Masters) for last 3 years, you are eligible to apply for dispensation to compete at advanced at the discretion of the QMJC Director.Level may be different to DWAS level.

The Final
The final will be Spotlight format with  1 song that is a current dance / RnB song and then a 2nd song where they will choose between 90’s or Noughties.

Spotlight Format
 will have all couples seated at the back, with each couple stepping up to dance to the 1st song (current dance/ rnb) then the 2nd song (pop). They will then do an “all-skate” (group freestyle) to a 3rd song.
DWAS Eligibility
Recognized as a Champions Dancer.
If you have placed 1st in a national championship at Advanced level or higher more than 12 months prior to this competition.
If the couples are considered to be at different levels, one member must be eligible for Champions and one can be Intermediate Plus or above if dancing up.
At the discretion of the Directors, an advanced couple can be invited to dance up. In the event they do not place they have the right to drop back down.
If you won 1st in DWAS in at an Advanced Level you must move up a level if that win is more than 12 months prior to this competition.
Special dispensation – If you have never placed in Champions & have not competed in Champions for last 3 years, you are eligible to apply for dispensation to compete at advanced at the discretion of the QMJC Directors.

Open Triples Eligibility
The three members of the group may be made up of any combination of gender and dance ability.Judges will be asked to consider entertainment value but focus on dance ability.

Any level dancer can have a go at Swaps & Steals.
Competitors are reminded that this is a category of competition which will be judged on dance merit (not simply entertainment value). Judges will be asked to focus on the couple’s ability to dance but also be creative & entertain the audience.

Reverse Role
Eligibility
Both members of the couple must be dancing the reverse role (lead or follow) to the role in which they usually dance when competing in freestyle/DWAS (or usually dance at class).
